October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase
awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the
steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the
same. We have made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go and need your help! (Taken

observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal: encourage communities to work

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and Rett Syndrome Awareness
month, a chance to spread awareness. During the month of October, we celebrate people with
Down syndrome and Rett Syndrome and make people aware of our abilities and
accomplishments.

National Fire Prevention week/month - While the campaign lasts the entire month, most
fire departments designate the second week of October as Fire Prevention Week, during which
demonstrations and expos are held in different U.S. cities. Sponsored by the National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA), Fire Prevention Month has roots that date back to The Great
Chicago Fire of 1871 that killed more than 250 people and left more than 100,000 homeless.
